About

Welcome to The REC: Commons! We are WAY more than a coffee shop! Our venue here boasts a wonderful café with invigorating coffee and delectable food. We strive every day to make The REC: Commons a safe, enjoyable environment for all ages! In addition to the café, we have community spaces that host a variety of activities from music classes to video game tournaments.

Why "The Rec: Commons?"

Coffee

We are a locally owned coffee shop providing a selection of warm and cold drinks using our unique on tap espresso and Nitro cold brew.

Community

We are proud to provide a safe, comfortable space for families and businesses to connect in and enjoy.

Mentoring

We believe strongly in facilitating connections for people to achieve personal growth and development, and social and economic opportunities.

History

The REC started as a project by Valor Mentoring to create safe spaces for recreation. The first location, The REC: Lanes, bolstered an beloved Keizer bowling alley into a new and improved bowling alley with opportunities for more community gatherings. The REC then transformed an iconic grange hall into The REC: Grange, a coffee shop that hosts many youth programs right next to McNary. Now the REC has seen the needs of East Salem’s youth and is serving everyone by providing coffee and community.
